NEWS ON Trump to Pardon Reality-Show Couple Convicted

Former President Donald Trump has granted full pardons to reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were convicted in 2022 of bank fraud and tax evasion.  The couple, known for their show "Chrisley Knows Best," were sentenced to 12 and 7 years in prison, respectively, and began serving their sentences in January 2023.  They were also ordered to pay $17.8 million in restitution.  The pardons were announced after a phone call between Trump and the Chrisleys' daughter, Savannah Chrisley, a vocal supporter of the former president.  Savannah had been actively advocating for her parents' release, alleging that their prosecution was politically motivated due to their conservative beliefs. Trump justified the pardons by stating that the couple had faced harsh treatment and unfair prosecution.  This decision is part of a pattern of Trump granting clemency to political allies and notable figures convicted of white-collar crimes. The Chrisleys' son, Kyle Chrisley, expressed his elation following the presidential pardon, crediting his sister Savannah for her persistent advocacy and Trump for the pardon. The couple's reality TV presence continues, with a Lifetime docuseries in development.
